Also….

As you’ll be doing this 5-Day Challenge because you’ve just signed up for my newsletter, it is not happening ‘as you read this’. That means that there will be no Q&A sessions in the Facebook group regarding the Challenge.

However, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to post your question in the Facebook group and be sure to tag me when you do!

Day #01

Describe what your life will look like, 10 years from today, when you are in charge of it? Write at least 3 full pages!

You joined the »Live Your Own Life 5-Day Challenge« because you want to figure out how to live your own life. How you can stop living the life others expect of you! To figure out how you can live your life true to yourself!

Did you know that not doing so is actually one of the biggest, if not the biggest regret of the dying?

I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself; not the life others expected of me.

By participating in this 5 day challenge you have taken the first step towards living your life the way you want it to live.

Today’s exercise is meant to take you out of the now and allow yourself to dream, to imagine what your life will look like 10 years from today if you were in charge of it.

In the PDF you’ll find some questions that can help fire up your imagination.

Don’t shy away from pushing the boundaries!

This exercise is not about getting it perfectly right. It is about creating a vision of what is important to you.

It is about finding out what the things are you absolutely want to have in your life if you are to live it the way YOU want to.

As you’re writing try to let go of the negative thoughts that can hold you back from achieving the life you want for yourself.

For now, let go of thinking about HOW you will achieve the life you’re sketching out for yourself. That may come later. For now just focus on the WHAT!

So sit down. Take out 3 A4- or letter sized sheets of paper or take a big notebook. Find your favourite pen.

Are you comfortable yet?

Good! Now start writing!

P.S. If writing is not your thing and you’re much more comfortable drawing, painting, mindmapping, recording or anything else creative, then go for that.

Day #02

Describe your perfect day

Now that you’ve described what your ideal life will look and feel like in 10 years from now, I want you to zoom in on a perfect day in that life!

Describe that day in as great a detail as possible with particular focus on the feelings those details invoke in you.

Like yesterday I want you to aim for 3 full A4- or letter sized pages.

And also like yesterday you may find it challenging to zoom in on your perfect or ideal day. To help you get started I’ve put together another list of powerful questions that you’ll find to be helpful. So be sure to download the accompanying PDF.

Day #03

Focus on your strengths!

(Scroll down to watch today’s video)

Over the course of the first two days of the challenge you first imagined what you want your life (or career or job) to look like in 10 years from now. The assumption of course being that you by then have truly taken charge of your life.

I then asked you to zoom in on what a perfect day in that life looks like.

To help you along you have downloaded a PDF for both days. In them you found questions aimed at firing your imagination and get the creative, imaginative juices flowing.

So how did it go? Were you able to describe what your life looks like when you’ve taken charge of it?

And what about that perfect day?

Before we dive into the day #03 assignment, go over your notes so far.

Look beyond the obvious story of your life in 10 years from now.

Ask yourself why you’ll be doing the things you’ve described. What does that tell you about what is important to you?

What do your activities, actions, living arrangements and more tell you about your core values?

Yes, it is important to have a dream to strive for.

But it is important to know what you want out of life and how you eventually want to look back on it.

Which is why the most important lesson of the first two days….

…. Is NOT WHAT does your life look like 10 years from now, ….

…. But rather WHY does it look like that!

Now lets move on to the day #03 assignment!

Watch the video

(content continues below video, so after you’ve watched it read on!!)

Though I mention two particular tests in the video, there are many different personalilty tests you can take. Each will tell you something about your particular strengths and weaknesses.

If you don’t know where or how to start, when it comes to determining what your strengths are, ask the people around you to tell you.

Ask family members, friends, colleagues and even clients what they consider to be your strengths. Be sure to ask them to also tell you why they think so.

Once you’ve narrowed down what your strengths are, start thinking about how you can use them towards the life you want to be living.

Day #04

Forget impossible; think I’m possible!

(Scroll down to watch today’s video)

I wish I had discovered this bit of wordplay myself, but unfortunately I can’t say that I did. The credit for this wonderful quote goes entirely to Ms Audrey Hepburn!

She was right of course.

Too often we think something to be impossible. And as long as we think that, whatever it is we want to do will remain impossible.

If you want to start moving towards the life you want for yourself, you’ll have to change some of your thinking.

But before we dive into today’s assignment lets look at what you’ve done so far.

Days 01 and 02

When you’ve done the work of putting into words, images, …. the life you envision for yourself, you probably found answers to questions like these:

  • What is or will your life’s purpose be?
  • What about it makes it so important to you?
  • What are the values, maybe even core values, you will honour in your life?
  • Why those values?
  • Who are the people you will surround yourself with?
Day 03

On day 03 you have found answers to questions like….

  • What are my strengths?
  • What are my talents?
  • What are my capabilities?
  • What are my experiences?
  • What are my weaknesses?
  • How can I use my strengths/talents/capabilities/_____ to bridge the gap between where I am now and where I want to be
  • How can I use them in the life I want for myself?

I encourage you to share some of your insights in the Facebook group. It will inspire others in the group . At the same time you may get further insights from reactions to your post or from posts others have put up.

SIDE NOTE: If you haven’t joined the Facebook group yet, be sure to do so now. Be aware though that your profile picture needs to be an actual picture of you. It is the one group rule and I strictly enforce it. First – it’s nice for all of us in the group to be able to see who we are ‘talking’ with and who we are sharing this space with. Second – it’s a way of keeping internet trolls out of the group. I realise it’s not perfect, but for now it’s the best I can do.

Now lets move on to the Day 04 assignment!

Watch the video

(content continues below video, so after you’ve watched it read on!!)

There are all kinds of reasons why people keep going in a life, career, job, …. they don’t want for themselves.

Some of those reasons are of course perfectly valid – even if to others they may sound like excuses.

BUT….

I have used many of the ‘reasons’ people keep telling me about as a rationalisation to keep on doing what I was doing.

In the few moments I was really honest with myself I knew many, if not most of my ‘reasons’ weren’t actual reasons at all but rather excuses.

What was behind my ‘reasons’ was fear! And mostly fear of the unknown.

I’ve found that this is true for most people too.

After all….

Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.

Some of the ‘reasons’ that keep coming up in conversations I have with people who say they want to change their lives are:

  • My partner wouldn’t understand
  • I’d have to change everything in my life
  • I would have to change everything about me
  • In my case things are different
  • Nobody else does it
  • That’s just the way life is
  • My family never did that
  • It’s too expensive
  • It’s too dangerous
  • It’s too late
  • It will take too long
  • I could never do that
  • I’m just waiting for the Universe to give me a sign
  • I don’t have the right experience/teacher/mentor/book/tools/_________
  • As soon as I get __________, I’ll do it
  • You don’t understand
  • It’s against my believes/upbringing/philosophy/_________
  • I’m too old/young/lazy/fat/thin/short/tall/worthless/serious/stuck/_________
  • I’m not ready yet
  • I might fail
  • What would ‘THEY’ think?

And this is just a selection. There are many more where these came from.

Which brings me to today’s assignment

Be very honest with yourself and identify every reason you’ve been using over your lifetime – but more importantly you’re using still – that keep you stuck in the place you don’t want to be.

Create a list of all of them.

Now take a good look at your list. Are all of them valid reasons or are they cop-outs?

Identify the cop-outs among your ‘reasons’ and think about what actions you can take now, today, to start moving in the direction of your life lived differently.

Take your Reasons-list and put an action after the cop-outs. One that you can undertake that will (eventually) counteract those cop-outs.

For accountability share some of your cop-outs and their counteractions in the Facebook group!

Don’t worry! You won’t be alone in coming up against cop-outs! By sharing them as well as the ways in which you will counteract them you will help others who struggle with cop-outs too.

Day #05

Make a plan!

(Scroll down to watch today’s video)

Today’s final assignment in the 5-Day Challenge may very well be the most important one.

Because all of your hard work over the last couple of days will have been for naught, if you don’t actually start implementing what you’ve learned!

And wouldn’t that be a pity?!

Lets quickly take look back on what you’ve done over the first 4 days of the challenge

On Day 01 you created a vision for your life in 10 years from now. A vision of the life you’ll be living when you’ve taken control of it.

On Day 02 you zoomed in on a perfect day in that future life.

I then asked you to look beneath the surface of both these visions and look for the clues as to what is really important to you.

What are the values you want to honour? What is your life’s purpose?

Day 03’s assignment was all about discovering your strengths, abilities and more.

You were asked to think about ways you can use them to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be.

And you also looked at how you can use them in the life you want for yourself.

On Day 04 you got to decide whether you will be among the 1% of people who actually take action towards the life they want to live.

This is where it gets really important!

Because if you decided you want to be one of those in the 1%, you will HAVE TO start executing the actions you’ve been thinking about over the last couple of days. Maybe even over the last couple of months and years!

And that’s where today’s assignment comes in.

Watch the video

(content continues below video, so after you’ve watched it read on. Be sure to read & scroll all the way down, because there is an extra – no worries it’s easy – bonus assignment waiting for you!!)

This concludes the »Live Your Own Life 5-Day Challenge«

Now it’s up to you to execute on the vision and plan you have for the life you will be in charge of 10 years from now!

To get you off to a good start I have one final assignment for you!

That’s it! You’ve done it!

For now and until next time, as always….
